Unique in the time of the primarily piercing oriented rapiers, the side sword kept the cut and thrust aspects of the late Medieval arming swords and added the protection of a complex hilt hand guard. This side sword features thick well rounded edges and a rolled tip for greater thrusting safety. However with all fencing swords we suggest affixing a rubber tip blunt or piece of leather strip taped to the tip. This updated sword design provides a stiffer blade, a more robust hand guard and long lasting cord wrapped grip.
